The wow factors of my Mandarin class are the engaging and interactive teaching methods. Minqi Laoshi uses fun activities, like asking each student to answer questions in Mandarin and encouraging us to explain our understanding. The lessons are very structured and easy to follow, and she always shares interesting cultural facts, which makes the class exciting and motivating. One of my most memorable experiences was speaking entirely in Mandarin for the first time in class. I was nervous, but answering correctly made me feel proud and confident, showing me my progress. Taking the HSK exam for the first time was also unforgettable; after years without exams, I was nervous, but I passed with flying colours. I can now understand simple Mandarin and have basic conversations with my Chinese friends, and even get discounts at Chinese shops when they notice I can speak a little Mandarin. Mandarin has become one of my favourite languages besides English. As a child, I dreamed of speaking it fluently, and now that dream is almost coming true, which keeps me excited to continue learning. Minqi Laoshi has become my favourite teacher after Cloris Laoshi. I’m really glad to get to know Bunga Laoshi. Her teaching is fun, and I can understand the lessons much better, xiexie! I can now speak a bit of Mandarin with my friends and understand some of the way native speakers talk. Learning at Kunkwan has also helped me enjoy Chinese dramas more, as I can now watch some without relying too much on subtitles. I’m happy to learn new things with such a great laoshi, Ain Laoshi, and I always loved it when laoshi picked my name to read in class as it gave me the chance to practice my pronunciation. Supportive lǎoshī . Fatimah lǎoshī is always there to answer my questions, and both she and Angel Yeeling are super supportive, correcting me whenever needed. I really enjoy Gōngkè time and the role-playing exercises, they help me remember things easily. I can now understand simple questions, and although I’m still at an early stage, learning Mandarin helps me start understanding my clients and other Mandarin speakers. It is challenging, but with the support of laoshimen and classmates, I’m proud that I can construct simple sentences now. I would like to thank Fatimah lǎoshī and Angel Yeeling for their guidance, and Kent lǎoshī as well. Learning with Minqi Laoshi since Level A has been such a fun journey! She is very friendly and engaging throughout the class, and even outside class, she supports any questions we have about the Mandarin language. One of my proudest moments was writing a full sentence in Pinyin with accurate tones.
