One of my favourite memories was studying Mandarin with fellow Kunkwan friends at a cozy café, where we spent the day chatting in Chinese, laughing over pronunciation mistakes, and finishing our homework together, making learning feel fun and memorable. Learning Mandarin has opened a door to a new world, helping me appreciate Chinese culture more deeply and even recognize Chinese loanwords in Malay like “tapau.” As a Japanese speaker, it also helped me bridge language barriers at work, improving communication between my Chinese and Japanese colleagues. I thought learning Mandarin would be stressful, but the class with Minqi Laoshi turned out to be really fun and engaging.
