I’m happy to learn new things with such a great laoshi, Ain Laoshi, and I always loved it when laoshi picked my name to read in class as it gave me the chance to practice my pronunciation. As a retiree, I enjoy learning Mandarin to spend my time meaningfully, and now I can even understand what the hero in Chinese dramas is saying 😁 Learning Mandarin can be quite challenging, but it’s also fun because I can use many things around me as learning tools. Thank you Ain Laoshi, you are really helpful and you make things look simple and easy.

I love how the module is arranged at a pace I can follow. Even with a busy work week, I can slot in this once-a-week 2-hour class, which makes me very happy. My first assignment with a native Mandarin speaker in Level A was memorable. I asked a colleague to be my partner, and she said my pronunciation was surprisingly good! I’m still a beginner and cannot speak or understand Mandarin fully yet, but I believe I’ll be able to once I complete the course. Learning Mandarin has opened me up to a new world and made me appreciate why Chinese speakers sometimes make mistakes in Malay. I now feel encouraged to make mistakes in Mandarin too as part of learning. Thank you, Ika lǎoshī, for being very supportive, keeping the class fun and engaging, and being a role model for me to become a good Mandarin speaker.

Cloris Laoshi’s teaching is at a great pace, encouraging, fun, and interactive. Making new friends and learning something totally new made the class enjoyable. I really enjoy the class because my laoshi is very friendly and supportive. I also like that I can interact with other students and make new friends along the way. My Mandarin class with Izzati lǎoshī is interactive and fun, making learning enjoyable and less stressful. She is friendly, supportive, and always encourages us to speak with confidence, especially during the 5-minute practice breaks. I love learning real-life phrases that I can use in daily conversations, and the teaching pace is comfortable for beginners. My most memorable moment was taking my first HSK1 exam and getting full marks, even though I started learning Mandarin at 40 with no background, it gave me a lot of confidence and motivated me to continue. Learning Mandarin has helped me understand simple conversations, communicate with native speakers, enjoy Mandarin songs, and improved my memory and confidence. I feel happy, excited, and proud of my progress, and I am motivated to keep learning. The Mandarin class with Izzati Laoshi provides a very fun and supportive learning environment, with people from different backgrounds and ages encouraging me to practice the language. One of the most interesting experiences was learning how to have proper conversations in Mandarin and actually practicing them in real-life situations. I’m slowly starting to understand conversations and gain confidence to reply and join in. Learning Mandarin has been challenging but fun, and I’m happy with my progress. The class is always interactive, with lots of ways to engage students, and the lessons are always related to real-life situations, which makes learning enjoyable.

I really enjoyed my Mandarin classes with Bunga Laoshi because of the interactive and fun learning environment. She was very kind, supportive, and made efforts to accommodate all her students, definitely the wow factors for me. My most interesting memories were the practical assignments and written assessments, which challenged me to speak more and break the ice with classmates, even making me a bit nervous during exams. What impressed me most during my Mandarin class with Ika Laoshi were her well-paced lessons, step-by-step guidance, and patience in teaching. One of my most memorable experiences was preparing for the role play assignment and performing it, along with the funny mistakes I made throughout the classes. Learning Mandarin has helped me understand simple conversations better as I’m able to catch some vocabulary and get the gist of what is being said. It also indirectly helps me build better relationships with my clients, as they can see my effort and become more open with me, especially the uncles and aunties. Although it has been challenging, I’m proud of my progress as I can now hold simple conversations and understand basic Mandarin. I knew nothing about Mandarin at first, and I realized self-learning wasn’t enough. I needed a proper platform, which is how I found Kunkwan. I got to meet new friends from various backgrounds and laoshi who are very helpful and supportive. Learning Mandarin at Kunkwan is really fun. One of my most interesting experiences was an assignment that required speaking with a Chinese friend. I felt shy at first, afraid of making mistakes in pronunciation, but my friends were very helpful, correcting me like native speakers and teaching me new vocabulary useful for real-life conversations. I think Mandarin is very important, as China and Malaysia are trading partners, so learning it helps me understand conversations better in both business and personal contexts. It also helps me enjoy my favourite Mandarin songs more easily. I feel grateful to be part of the Kunkwan community and always look forward to the next class. Bunga Laoshi is very patient and always engages with every student in class. The syllabus is full of useful information, and it really helps to practice through homework. Learning Mandarin has been helpful for me as I can now understand my work colleagues when they speak simple sentences. One of the challenges is finding someone to practice with, so I usually plan earlier with my partner, and I feel more confident taking exams when I’m well prepared. I can understand simple questions and replies, and I also make an effort to improve my listening skills by following Mandarin content and listening to Chinese songs to learn pronunciation. As I progress through the levels, I feel a strong sense of achievement, even though it gets more challenging and requires more effort and focus. I’m also thankful to be learning at Kunkwan because of the rich resources and fun events they organise. Bunga Laoshi always encourages participation and is very supportive of everyone’s effort, and I truly hope she continues to teach more students as she is knowledgeable and relatable.

For me, the online class sessions are very engaging and never boring. Turning on the camera and having two-way audio makes the class interactive, and I truly enjoy the learning experience. Izzati lǎoshī is very attentive and ensures we stay focused. My most interesting memory is when lǎoshī calls my name to answer questions. Though a bit nerve-wracking, it keeps me alert and has improved my confidence. Learning Mandarin has brought many benefits to daily life, from communicating with Chinese neighbors and colleagues to teaching my child basic Chinese. After receiving my HSK1 result, I became more enthusiastic and determined. Overall, learning Mandarin is challenging but enjoyable and rewarding, boosting my confidence in daily use.
