Bunga Laoshi is very patient and always engages with every student in class. The syllabus is full of useful information, and it really helps to practice through homework. Learning Mandarin has been helpful for me as I can now understand my work colleagues when they speak simple sentences. One of the challenges is finding someone to practice with, so I usually plan earlier with my partner, and I feel more confident taking exams when I’m well prepared. I can understand simple questions and replies, and I also make an effort to improve my listening skills by following Mandarin content and listening to Chinese songs to learn pronunciation. As I progress through the levels, I feel a strong sense of achievement, even though it gets more challenging and requires more effort and focus. I’m also thankful to be learning at Kunkwan because of the rich resources and fun events they organise. Bunga Laoshi always encourages participation and is very supportive of everyone’s effort, and I truly hope she continues to teach more students as she is knowledgeable and relatable.

Supportive lǎoshī . Fatimah lǎoshī is always there to answer my questions, and both she and Angel Yeeling are super supportive, correcting me whenever needed. I really enjoy Gōngkè time and the role-playing exercises, they help me remember things easily. I can now understand simple questions, and although I’m still at an early stage, learning Mandarin helps me start understanding my clients and other Mandarin speakers. It is challenging, but with the support of laoshimen and classmates, I’m proud that I can construct simple sentences now. I would like to thank Fatimah lǎoshī and Angel Yeeling for their guidance, and Kent lǎoshī as well. I really enjoyed the systematic learning with Ain Laoshi’s clear teaching methods. The role-playing activities, like acting as a seller, made learning fun and practical. I’ve even started to enjoy Mandarin songs! Although learning Mandarin can be challenging, it’s definitely worth it. Agnes Laoshi was very enthusiastic and always gave students opportunities to speak, gently correcting us in a soft and easy tone. She makes sure everyone understands the meaning and never teaches too fast. One memorable moment was learning the word “nǚ’ér” (daughter). She patiently corrected me because saying it wrong would change the meaning completely! We also tried singing the Rasa Sayang song using numbers, which was hilarious since we were out of tune, but thankfully we got it right in the end. I’m able to understand simple Mandarin conversations when speakers talk slowly, which is amazing for me as a CIC level student since I rarely get to speak Mandarin every day. I’m proud of my progress, now I can relate some words I learned while watching dramas, even if I sometimes struggle with tones. Agnes Laoshi, xie xie nin for everything from start to finish. You always give students the chance to try, stay patient, and keep the class motivated, even when the energy is low at first. Thanks to you, the class always ends up lively and fun!

I love how fun she is when teaching, and how she explains things so well with great enthusiasm. One of my most memorable experiences was taking the HSK exam for the first time and feeling so nervous, but everyone was very welcoming and never made fun of mistakes. I love the way Agnes Laoshi explains the lessons, everything is easy to understand. I managed to count from 1 to 10 in Chinese and memorized it. Since I meet a lot of Chinese speakers at work, learning Mandarin has become really important for me. I love the class and hope to become fluent in both conversation and writing.
