I really enjoyed learning Mandarin with Ain Laoshi. She is friendly and kind, and I learn new words every day. I get to practise speaking Mandarin in class, often doing assignments with classmates. I can now understand a little when Chinese people speak and even enjoy listening to Chinese music. Learning is fun, and I love it! The wow factors of my Mandarin class are the engaging and interactive teaching methods. Minqi Laoshi uses fun activities, like asking each student to answer questions in Mandarin and encouraging us to explain our understanding. The lessons are very structured and easy to follow, and she always shares interesting cultural facts, which makes the class exciting and motivating. One of my most memorable experiences was speaking entirely in Mandarin for the first time in class. I was nervous, but answering correctly made me feel proud and confident, showing me my progress. Taking the HSK exam for the first time was also unforgettable; after years without exams, I was nervous, but I passed with flying colours. I can now understand simple Mandarin and have basic conversations with my Chinese friends, and even get discounts at Chinese shops when they notice I can speak a little Mandarin. Mandarin has become one of my favourite languages besides English. As a child, I dreamed of speaking it fluently, and now that dream is almost coming true, which keeps me excited to continue learning. Minqi Laoshi has become my favourite teacher after Cloris Laoshi. She makes lessons fun, understandable, and always supports us patiently every week. Thank you, Minqi Laoshi!

I knew nothing about Mandarin at first, and I realized self-learning wasn’t enough. I needed a proper platform, which is how I found Kunkwan. I got to meet new friends from various backgrounds and laoshi who are very helpful and supportive. Learning Mandarin at Kunkwan is really fun. One of my most interesting experiences was an assignment that required speaking with a Chinese friend. I felt shy at first, afraid of making mistakes in pronunciation, but my friends were very helpful, correcting me like native speakers and teaching me new vocabulary useful for real-life conversations. I think Mandarin is very important, as China and Malaysia are trading partners, so learning it helps me understand conversations better in both business and personal contexts. It also helps me enjoy my favourite Mandarin songs more easily. I feel grateful to be part of the Kunkwan community and always look forward to the next class. The wow factor of the Mandarin class is that it can be done online and based on our own timing, so we don’t have to go to the centre and can choose a schedule that works for us. One of my most interesting experiences was taking the HSK 1 for the first time. Even with the mock exam during class, experiencing the real exam in Mandarin was quite memorable. I’m now able to understand some words in sentences spoken by my friends and connect the dots even if I only understand a few words, which motivates me to keep learning harder. I’m proud and grateful for the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers and apply my skills outside class, like understanding Chinese dramas. Xiexie laoshimen for teaching me from CIC level to Level D, and a special thank you to Bunga Laoshi! With your hard work, I’ve been able to learn Chinese on my own and deepen my understanding of the language.

Cloris Laoshi’s teaching is at a great pace, encouraging, fun, and interactive. Making new friends and learning something totally new made the class enjoyable. Bunga Laoshi is very patient and always engages with every student in class. The syllabus is full of useful information, and it really helps to practice through homework. Learning Mandarin has been helpful for me as I can now understand my work colleagues when they speak simple sentences. One of the challenges is finding someone to practice with, so I usually plan earlier with my partner, and I feel more confident taking exams when I’m well prepared. I can understand simple questions and replies, and I also make an effort to improve my listening skills by following Mandarin content and listening to Chinese songs to learn pronunciation. As I progress through the levels, I feel a strong sense of achievement, even though it gets more challenging and requires more effort and focus. I’m also thankful to be learning at Kunkwan because of the rich resources and fun events they organise. I really appreciate how Izzati Laoshi constantly checks our understanding throughout the class, corrects our pronunciation, and reminds us about tones while guiding us step by step. She always encourages us to construct sentences and gently corrects us, which helps reinforce grammar in a very supportive way. As an older learner, I used to be afraid of making mistakes, but KunKwan provides a safe and comfortable environment to learn from them. Even though the classes are online, they are still very interactive and engaging. The learning experience also reminds me of my Nihongo days, especially when memorizing characters, and I find it fun how Hanzi is taught in a more visual and engaging way. One of my most memorable experiences was completing an assignment where I had to interview a stranger, which turned out to be both challenging and rewarding. Learning Mandarin has helped me in daily situations like shopping or visiting the hospital, and I now enjoy understanding signages and picking up conversations around me, even though people speak very fast! I’ve got a very supportive and friendly Izzati Laoshi, and I can follow her teaching pace, which helps me understand and apply all the knowledge to complete my gongke. I can even use Mandarin in real life for small conversations with my friends. After finishing the CIC class, I can watch Chinese dramas and understand a little of the dialogue, which makes me excited to learn more. The course module is very well-developed, and Ain Laoshi is attentive, patient, and very knowledgeable. Taking the HSK exam and doing role-playing as buyer and seller were some of the most memorable experiences, along with meeting new friends.
