I knew nothing about Mandarin at first, and I realized self-learning wasn’t enough. I needed a proper platform, which is how I found Kunkwan. I got to meet new friends from various backgrounds and laoshi who are very helpful and supportive. Learning Mandarin at Kunkwan is really fun. One of my most interesting experiences was an assignment that required speaking with a Chinese friend. I felt shy at first, afraid of making mistakes in pronunciation, but my friends were very helpful, correcting me like native speakers and teaching me new vocabulary useful for real-life conversations. I think Mandarin is very important, as China and Malaysia are trading partners, so learning it helps me understand conversations better in both business and personal contexts. It also helps me enjoy my favourite Mandarin songs more easily. I feel grateful to be part of the Kunkwan community and always look forward to the next class. The class with Agnes Laoshi was interactive and fun, with a friendly, supportive, and funny laoshi 🙂 It was my first time learning Mandarin in a group setting, and I really enjoyed it. I can now understand simple conversations and even talk with Mandarin-speaking friends. Learning in Kunkwan is very fun and relaxing, as the laoshi always keeps students engaged and patiently answers our questions to make sure we understand. One of my most interesting memories was doing the assignments, especially when we had to converse with a Chinese speaker, which helped me learn pronunciation and boost my confidence in speaking Mandarin. Learning Mandarin has helped me understand simple conversations, and sometimes when I watch Chinese dramas, I can even understand without subtitles. Overall, learning with Kunkwan is very exciting and meaningful, and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made and motivated to continue improving. My Mandarin class with Izzati lǎoshī is interactive and fun, making learning enjoyable and less stressful. She is friendly, supportive, and always encourages us to speak with confidence, especially during the 5-minute practice breaks. I love learning real-life phrases that I can use in daily conversations, and the teaching pace is comfortable for beginners. My most memorable moment was taking my first HSK1 exam and getting full marks, even though I started learning Mandarin at 40 with no background, it gave me a lot of confidence and motivated me to continue. Learning Mandarin has helped me understand simple conversations, communicate with native speakers, enjoy Mandarin songs, and improved my memory and confidence. I feel happy, excited, and proud of my progress, and I am motivated to keep learning. Learning with Minqi Laoshi since Level A has been such a fun journey! She is very friendly and engaging throughout the class, and even outside class, she supports any questions we have about the Mandarin language. One of my proudest moments was writing a full sentence in Pinyin with accurate tones. The role-playing sessions were entertaining and funny, especially when some of us brought props to act out the scenarios. I’m now able to understand general conversations in daily life, which has boosted my confidence as I love learning languages. The course module is very well-developed, and Ain Laoshi is attentive, patient, and very knowledgeable. Taking the HSK exam and doing role-playing as buyer and seller were some of the most memorable experiences, along with meeting new friends. I’m now more confident speaking Mandarin daily and can interact with my customers, understanding what they say. Learning has been fun, motivating, and I can see my progress. I love how the module is arranged at a pace I can follow. Even with a busy work week, I can slot in this once-a-week 2-hour class, which makes me very happy. My first assignment with a native Mandarin speaker in Level A was memorable. I asked a colleague to be my partner, and she said my pronunciation was surprisingly good! I’m still a beginner and cannot speak or understand Mandarin fully yet, but I believe I’ll be able to once I complete the course. Learning Mandarin has opened me up to a new world and made me appreciate why Chinese speakers sometimes make mistakes in Malay. I now feel encouraged to make mistakes in Mandarin too as part of learning. Supportive lǎoshī . Fatimah lǎoshī is always there to answer my questions, and both she and Angel Yeeling are super supportive, correcting me whenever needed. I really enjoy Gōngkè time and the role-playing exercises, they help me remember things easily. I can now understand simple questions, and although I’m still at an early stage, learning Mandarin helps me start understanding my clients and other Mandarin speakers. It is challenging, but with the support of laoshimen and classmates, I’m proud that I can construct simple sentences now. I would like to thank Fatimah lǎoshī and Angel Yeeling for their guidance, and Kent lǎoshī as well. Minqi Laoshi fosters a supportive and enjoyable learning environment. Her dedication shows in the way she personally corrects my pronunciation via WhatsApp recordings, helping me learn with confidence and accuracy. One of my most memorable experiences was sitting for an exam alongside much younger students. Even though we were at different stages of life, the nervousness felt just like my university days. I picked up Mandarin as a way to stay busy, reading and learning new words, and it also makes it easier to connect with my Chinese friends, even though I still have a long way to go. Learning Mandarin isn’t easy, but it’s very rewarding. I learn new words and sentences each week, and I’m excited for the day I can understand and speak it well, making conversations much more fun. For me, the online class sessions are very engaging and never boring. Turning on the camera and having two-way audio makes the class interactive, and I truly enjoy the learning experience. Izzati lǎoshī is very attentive and ensures we stay focused. My most interesting memory is when lǎoshī calls my name to answer questions. Though a bit nerve-wracking, it keeps me alert and has improved my confidence.
